about
About TELUS Health Services
TELUS Health provides support for many issues that may prompt YRP members and their families to access the EFAP for support for counselling, work-life, and professional services.
The structure of the EFAP is short-term and solution focused counselling and services. While some of our services have a fixed number of sessions – like Legal for example is a one-time consultation up to an hour in length – most of the services available through the EFAP are flexible.

Counselling Support Services uses a solution-focused model. This means that one person might need one session with a counsellor to get some action items and perspective, and that will be enough. For another person, they might need 3 or 4 sessions with a counsellor to feel like they have the skills to manage the issue. Ultimately the goal of short-term and solution –focused counselling is to provide you with the skills to manage your issue and make some positive changes.
Sometimes the short-term model is not enough. If you need or want ongoing support or specialized services, your EFAP counsellor would refer you to community resources or private practitioners who can provide longer-term and/or specialized service. At this time, you may access your group benefits to cover costs, if needed.

There are many ways to access counselling support. TELUS Health offers various counselling delivery options to allow for client flexibility. For example, a YRP member who works shift work and needs an appointment on a Sunday or later in the evening might find it more convenient to use our telephone counselling service, which is available 7 days a week from early morning to late evening. Or a couple looking for counselling, where one spouse travels, might appreciate the flexibility of connecting to a single counselling session through video counselling, even if they aren’t in the same place for that appointment.
Face-to-Face counselling
An in-person appointment at the counsellor’s office.
Telephone counselling appointment
The counsellor will call the client at a designated time at a number provided by the client. Telephone counselling can occur anywhere the member is able to speak on the phone.
E-Counselling
An email conversation between the counsellor and the client. The member or families will send an email to their counsellor, within 24-48 hours the counsellor will respond, and the counselling session will continue with emails back-and-forth. This delivery option is very popular with individuals who prefer to journal their feelings or want to save their counsellor’s suggestions to revisit the next time they need support.
Video counselling
It offers a real-time “face-to-face” feeling by utilizing a computer. Video counselling can even be used to have a couple or family counselling session with participants in different locations – so a YRP member working in a remote location, whose spouse is back at home, can connect to a counsellor for a single session through video counselling.
Text-based resources
Provided through our Health & Wellness resource kits. These are clinical resources, usually a self-help book, a workbook, and community resources, that the member of family can use to work through an issue at their own pace. Our Health & Wellness Resource Kits topics include parenting children, parenting teens, relationships, nutrition, managing stress, career development and job loss and transition.
First chat counselling
Allows a client to connect immediately, through their computer or mobile device, with a counsellor through chat or texting. There is no appointment required to connect with a counsellor by First Chat, and you would typically be connected to a counsellor in less than a minute.
Online Group Counselling
It was introduced last year to support individuals accessing EFAP to support anxiety as a presenting issue. This has been such a successful delivery model that we are expanding our counselling group next month to support communication Across Relationships and Parenting School-aged Children.
Work-Life Services
There are many ways to access counselling support. TELUS Health offers various counselling delivery options to allow for client flexibility. Or a couple looking for counselling, where one spouse travels, might appreciate the flexibility of connecting to a single counselling session through video counselling, even if they aren’t in the same place for that appointment.

Legal support Services
Provides a one-time consultation, up to an hour in length, with a lawyer that has experience in the specific area of law required and the applicable province. Legal support is designed to be general in nature, meaning that, should an individual need to engage the services of a lawyer, they would not be covered under the EFAP. However, some lawyers in our network will offer discounts to clients that are referred in through the EFAP. Legal support is our most popular professional WorkLife service offering. Please note that we cannot support YRP members or family members who have questions about tax law, employment law, or immigration law.
Financial support services
Connects individuals to financial professionals to support issues such as debt and credit management, budgeting, tax & estate planning, and retirement planning, to name a few. We do not provide investment advice through this EFAP service.
Career Support Services

Nutrition support Services
